Unlike some other cars during its production in 2006, the Toyota Corolla did not come standard with anti-lock brakes. This safety feature was available as an option on all trims of this model but was not included as a standard feature. If you bought a used Corolla and are unsure if it has anti-lock brakes, there are two ways to check. First, turn the key in the ignition to ON and look for an ABS light to appear on the dashboard among the other lights. Alternatively, you can locate the ABS module near the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side. The purpose of the anti-lock braking system is to assist the driver in making safer and more controlled stops by automatically modulating the brakes to prevent skidding.
