If the back door on your Kia Sportage is not opening, the first step is to examine the latch mechanism. A damaged latch may prevent it from unlocking when you press the unlock or open button. Additionally, check the fuse related to the door assembly. For Sportages with power liftgate feature, a blown motor fuse might cause malfunction. Lastly, inspect the door frame itself. In case of a prior accident, the door frame could be misaligned, making it difficult to open.

The issue with my Sportage trunk not opening was resolved by parking the car in the shade for a few minutes to cool it down. I simply loosened the latch plate, shut the door firmly, and then tightened the latch plate again to fix the problem. It seems that the metal expanding in response to heat was causing the issue.

If the back door of your Kia Sportage is unable to open, there might be a problem with the latch and actuator system.
