Well, it varies. Nissan categorizes the Altima as a mid-size car and remains consistent in doing so. However, rental agencies predominantly list the Altima as a full-sized vehicle, causing confusion and frustration for travelers. Despite this misinformation, the Altima is actually a decent vehicle with ample passenger space of 100.8 cubic feet, comfortably accommodating five adults and luggage. It also offers good highway gas mileage of 39 mpg and features like NissanConnect and intelligent cruise control, making it a solid choice in the mid-size car category overall.

The Nissan Altima is classified as a compact car, not a full-size vehicle.

The Nissan Altima may be labeled as a full-size car according to the EPA, despite being classified as a mid-size car. The EPA sets the threshold for a full-size car at an interior volume exceeding 120 cubic feet, and the Altima just meets this criteria with an interior volume of 122.1 cubic feet. However, based on personal experience from a lengthy 2000+ mile trip in the Altima, I disagree with this classification and believe that rental car companies may be overcharging customers for a vehicle that doesn't truly fit the full-size category.

Enterprise rental advertises full-size cars and will bill customers accordingly.
