To maintain your 2003 GMC Sierra 1500, use dexron-Vi Automatic transmission fluid that meets the required specifications. Check the transmission fluid level monthly. Ensure the engine is idling in park, then pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and pull it back out to check the oil level on the tip. If the vehicle has been parked for a few hours, refer to the COLD mark, and if it's recently driven and at operating temperature, use the HOT mark for reference.
