The recommended gas for the 2016 VW Tiguan is regular unleaded, which is what the manufacturer suggests using. Premium gas has a higher octane number than regular unleaded, indicating how well it resists knocking in the engine. Despite the belief that premium gas improves mileage and cleans the fuel system, it doesn't actually offer any advantages over regular gas. In reality, you might notice more of a fuel economy difference between various brands of regular gas than between the same manufacturer's regular and premium options. So, it's best to fill up your tank at a gas station known for offering good quality gas.
I suggest using premium fuel. I have a vehicle that specifically states in the fuel door and owner's manual that it needs premium 91 octane fuel.
While premium fuel is suggested for the 2016 VW Tiguan, you can opt for regular unleaded as well.
I agree with Christopher M. I have a 2016 model, and it states on the door that Premium Fuel is recommended.
The manual and the fuel door both clearly indicate that only Premium Fuel is necessary. Even if some may argue otherwise, the fuel door explicitly states this requirement. It is not suggesting that regular fuel can be used with premium being the preferred option, nor does it mention that Premium is optional. Instead, it strictly states "Premium fuel ONLY," so it's important to consider this information.
The suggested fuel grade for the Tiguan model from that year is 91 RON, not 91 Octane. In the United States, we use Octane as a measurement unit, while the rest of the world uses RON.
The 2016 VW Tiguan can run on regular gas, but using premium gas is recommended for optimal performance.
