In 2014, the Honda CR-V was the last model to come equipped with a traditional automatic transmission as standard. However, for the 2015 model year, they made the switch to a CVT transmission. Unlike traditional transmissions, a CVT operates with continuous variability, resulting in smoother vehicle performance. The drawback of a CVT is its reliance on belts and a steel ribbon, which are susceptible to damage. Due to their complexity compared to standard transmissions, not as many repair shops are equipped to work on CVTs.
