No, the 2008 Ford Escape doesn't have a traditional power steering pump like older models. Instead, it uses a power steering control module (PSCM) which was introduced starting with the 2008 model year. The PSCM operates with an electric motor, torque sensor, and angle sensors to assist with steering. Issues with this type of system may appear as the steering wheel moving on its own or a loss of power steering assistance during turns. If you experience a complete lack of steering assistance, the first thing to check is the fuse protecting the PSCM circuit. Generally, the PSCM is just as reliable, if not more so, than a traditional power steering pump.
