Although the Mercedes-Benz GLC300 does not originally include a spare tire from the factory, many owners opt to install one independently. This decision arises because the GLC300 is equipped with "run-flat" tires, which offer little comfort when they inevitably fail—since they are not designed for extended distances post-puncture. Similarly, a temporary spare tire (donut) is also limited, as it is not recommended for driving beyond 50 miles at reduced speeds. My advice, provided you have the additional storage space, is to acquire a full-size spare tire, cover it with a blanket or something comparable, and store it away until it's needed. It's always preferable to err on the side of caution.

We purchased new Michelin tires 46,000 miles back when the original ones wore out at 20,000 miles. Costco never mentioned that "run-flats" were necessary, and since we were unaware, we were quite lucky to have driven the past four years without experiencing a flat tire. Now, I need to decide whether to replace all four tires with "run-flats" that come with a 20,000-mile warranty at $320 per tire, or opt for regular tires that offer a 60,000-mile warranty and carry a spare. Any suggestions?

I was astonished to discover, two years into owning the new GLC, that there isn't a spare tire in the trunk. I believe this should be disclosed up front, as I would have at least carried a floor jack if I had known.

A spare tire ought to be mandatory and should come as a default feature with the purchase of the vehicle. It should also be clearly communicated at the point of sale to ensure buyers are fully aware of what they are acquiring.

I concur with your previous statement. What should you do if you have winter tires on? You still need a spare tire! I require one immediately. 😫
