The 2013 Honda CR-V is equipped with a timing chain, not a belt. A timing chain is built to last the entire lifespan of the vehicle, so if all goes well, you shouldn't have to worry about it. However, it can still be damaged or fail in some situations. If this occurs, you will quickly notice your car overheating. Replacing it will cost around $100 for the new part and another $100 for labor. When purchasing online, be careful as some retailers may mistake a timing chain for a timing belt, which would not be compatible and could leave you with a useless part.

I drive a 2013 Honda CR-V Touring and recently had to replace the upper timing chain. It turns out that this is a common replacement needed every 150,000 kilometers, regardless of other factors. When I reached out to the nearby Honda dealership, they acknowledged that it's a well-known issue.

From 2013 to 2017, the four-cylinder versions of the Honda CRV used a timing chain, while the V6 models used a timing belt. However, starting in 2018, all engine options for the CRV come equipped with a timing belt.

I drive a 2013 Honda CRV with 99,360 miles on it, and my extended warranty will expire at 100,000 miles. Can I still have the water pump and belt replaced before the warranty runs out?
