In the 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, both the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine are equipped with a timing chain. This chain ensures that your intake and exhaust valves open at the right times. Unlike a timing belt, the chain does not need regular maintenance and only needs to be replaced if a problem arises. To keep the timing chain in good condition, all you have to do is change your oil regularly. Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended oil change intervals, usually around every 5,000 miles or 12 months.
The 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer comes with a timing chain, except for the diesel models.
