The 2017 Honda Pilot comes with an interference engine and a timing belt, which has been consistent across Pilot models from 2003 to now in 2021. Timing belts and timing chains each have their pros and cons, so the question is whether having a timing belt is a good or bad thing. Honda suggests changing your timing belt every 80,000 to 100,000 miles, meaning you might have to do this maintenance two or three times during the lifetime of your Pilot. In comparison, a timing chain can last around 250,000 miles or more, but replacing it is more expensive than replacing a timing belt. This swap could cost just under a thousand bucks. While it's the luck of the draw, many experts believe that having a timing belt puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.
