This Honda Accord has a timing chain, not a belt. The timing chain is built to last the entire lifespan of the vehicle, so as long as everything goes smoothly, you shouldn't have to worry about it. However, it is still possible for the timing chain to get damaged or fail in some cases. If this occurs, you'll notice the car quickly overheating. Replacing the timing chain will cost around $100 for the part and another $100 for labor. When purchasing online, be cautious as some retailers may mistakenly label both a timing chain and a timing belt as a cam belt. Remember, a timing belt will not be compatible and could leave you with a useless part.

Between 2008 and 2012, the 4-cylinder engines had a timing chain, and the v6 engines had a timing belt. From 2013 to 2017, the 4-cylinder models also had a timing chain, but the v6 models continued with a timing belt. Starting in the 2018 model year, all available engines now come equipped with a timing belt.
