Many 2011 Ford F-150 owners have faced issues where the electric power steering suddenly fails, making it very difficult to steer the vehicle. A frequent culprit behind this problem is the lower steering linkage. The lower steering linkage may not be functioning properly in hot weather conditions. The term steering linkage refers to the interconnected parts and pivots that connect the steering gear to the steering arms on the front or rear wheels. It is responsible for transferring the movement from the steering gear output shaft to the steering arms, which turn the wheels to control the direction of the vehicle. Depending on the type of steering gear used, the steering linkage may include components such as the outer tie-rod end, inner tie-rod end, tie-rod, steering knuckle/arm, pitman arm, center link, drag link, idler arm, and steering damper or stabilizer.
