In 2011, the Ford F-250 comes equipped with strong 6-liter and 7.3-liter diesel engines paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Some common issues with the factory-installed 6R140 transmission include a "shift flare" problem between 2nd and 3rd gears causing high RPMs, along with a delayed engagement when reversing. To fix this, the transmission shift solenoids need to be replaced. Another known problem is the occurrence of diagnostic trouble codes P0751, P0730, and/or P2700, which require replacing the coast one-way clutch mechanical diode and the coast clutch cylinder. Additional difficulties with the Super-Duty's 6-speed transmission may include delayed motion in forward and reverse, harsh shifting over time, and gear slippage due to a software glitch. This can be resolved by reprogramming the ECU.
