The turbo in the Ford Focus XR5 might encounter a ruptured PCV diaphragm located in the oil filter housing. This specific problem is commonly found in the XR5 model and can be identified by signs such as increased crankcase pressure producing a high-pitched whining sound, a decrease in boost pressure, high oil pressure during idle, and excessive oil consumption. Owners may also notice a "check engine" light appearing on the dashboard along with blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. When experiencing these symptoms, the oil filter housing must be replaced. Additionally, the 2.5-liter engine is prone to cracked cylinder liners, resulting in issues like rough idling, misfires, coolant leaks, and white smoke from the exhaust. The turbo is also at risk of solenoid boost valve failure and potential coolant loss through its lines.
