According to some 2018 Ford Explorer owners, there have been issues with the power liftgate failing. The common problems reported involve the liftgate motor and latch. Most often, liftgate problems are linked to either the motor or the motor start solenoid. If you notice a clicking sound when you activate the switch, it's likely that the solenoid is faulty. You can test this by connecting direct power to the motor using a small jumper cable to see if it runs. Start solenoids are responsible for starting the electric motor that powers the liftgate. Typically, 3-post start solenoids are used for lift gates that move up with gravity down, while 4-post start solenoids are used for lift gates that move up and down with power.

In 2018, the liftgate motor and latch of my Explorer stopped working, along with the passenger seat massage module. Fortunately, both were fixed for free under warranty. I'm curious if others have experienced these issues too.

I own a 2018 Ford Explorer XLT and one day the lift gate suddenly stopped functioning. There is no clicking noise when I try to open it using the remote or latch buttons. Do you have any suggestions on how I can figure out what might be wrong and fix it?

The lift gate on my 2018 Explorer is not functioning properly. The dealership has had my car for about a month trying to diagnose the issue, but so far, they have been unsuccessful. Ford Corporation has not been able to provide any assistance either. When I push the button, there is no clicking sound. Despite replacing the actuator and the motor, the problem persists.

In 2018, my XLT experienced a malfunction with the lift gate motor and latch at 68,000 km. It got stuck closed and wouldn't open. Since I don't use it often, I was somewhat let down by the situation.

Certainly! My rear door latch stopped working. We discovered the issue while we were away on holiday, and it would have been reassuring to confirm that it was securely locked.
