The Ford Focus, like all cars that run on gasoline, needs a battery to start up. Usually this goes smoothly, but eventually everyone will face a dead battery. Whether you accidentally left your lights on or the battery is just worn out, you'll need to jump-start it to get your car moving. To do this, you'll need a set of jumper cables and another vehicle. Park the vehicles close together so the cables can reach, then take the red clamp of the jumper cables and attach it to the red terminal of the working battery. Next, connect the other red clamp to the red terminal of the dead battery. Repeat the process with the black clamps, connecting them to the negative terminals of each battery. Once all connections are secure, start the working vehicle and let it run for a minute or two before trying to start the car with the dead battery. Once the car is running, remove the jumper cables in the reverse order they were connected, starting with the negative terminal of the dead battery.

Connect the black terminals first, followed by the red terminals, to either a battery charger or another vehicle. Start the car or run the battery until the engine begins running.
