The 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7-liter engine requires 6 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil for an oil change. Before starting the oil change, ensure that the car has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to allow the engine to cool down. Locate the oil pan and drain plug in the engine compartment, then place a bucket below the plug and remove it to let the oil drain out completely, which may take about an hour. After the oil has finished draining, replace the drain plug and find the oil intake port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to slowly fill the oil pan to the full mark, making sure not to overfill to avoid leaks and oil burning off. Once the oil is at the correct level, close the intake port, clean up any spilled oil, and your oil change is complete.
