The power lift gate on the 2019 Subaru Forester has a notable issue where it may not open at all when various buttons are pressed. When experiencing this problem, three error beeps will sound. Some have connected this problem with attempting to manually close the automatic lift gate too forcefully. To remedy this, hold down the button as you hear the three beeps, wait for about 6 seconds until two unlocking beeps are heard, and the hatch will partially raise and close. If this doesn't work, dealers often reset the system by disconnecting the battery's negative cable for two minutes or using the headlights to drain it. This effectively reboots the system to resolve the issue.
Typical issues with the power liftgate on a 2019 Subaru Forester often stem from a malfunctioning liftgate motor.
I've attempted this technique a few times, but no luck. No sounds, I've inspected the memory setting. I suspected that a new battery might solve the issue, but even with a new battery, it still wouldn't operate. This car trunk has been problematic since day one. Time to head to the dealership!
I tested out Oliver's advice to hold down the liftgate button for a few more seconds, and I'm happy to report that it did the trick. Big shoutout to Oliver!
