The Mercedes S400 Hybrid has faced numerous recalls starting in 2012, and there are concerns that the 2014 model could have similar electrical problems. Owners have reported battery failure around 100,000 miles, which can make fixing the car a costly endeavor. Additionally, there have been issues with the central computer losing its ability to communicate with the faulty power electronics module in the car over time. The faulty power electronics (FPE) module has been subject to recalls, and if it malfunctions in the S400, the car may not start. The S400 also has known issues with the AC compressor, and most of its troubles stem from electrical connections. Although the labor cost for installing the high voltage hybrid battery in the Mercedes is relatively low at $200-$300, the actual cost of replacing the part can average $15,000 or more.
