A common issue with previous models of the Hyundai Santa Fe before 2017 was the malfunctioning of the crankshaft position sensor. This component monitors the engine's crank position, speed, and rotational effort to help the car's computer control timing and fuel injection. The failure of this sensor in the 2.7-liter V6, 3.3-liter V6, and 3.5-liter V6 engines of the Santa Fe led to dangerous situations for drivers, with some experiencing sudden stalling in traffic, jerky movements, and inability to exceed 10 miles per hour. Many drivers also had trouble restarting their vehicles after a stall. Fortunately, newer models of the Santa Fe made after 2017 do not appear to have the same issues with this sensor.
