The 2018 Dodge Ram generally has a good reputation for reliability, but like most trucks, there may be transmission issues you encounter such as rough engine running, harsh shifting into first gear, jerking between first and second gear, difficulty shifting in traffic, and hard downshifting when slowing down. While these problems are not constant, they are potential concerns. However, a unique issue with the 2018 Rams, particularly the 2500s and 3500s, is an unusual problem where the transmission can shift out of park and start moving without any input from the driver. This could be concerning if there are people or pets nearby. Fortunately, there is a recall for this issue, and the repair should not cost you anything. In the meantime, you can use the parking brake when idling as a temporary measure, but it is recommended to have the problem fixed, especially if you have one of these trucks with the gear shifter on the steering column.

An issue frequently encountered with the 2018 Dodge Ram's transmission is unpredictable shifting, bumpy gear changes, and delayed engagement of gears.

My 2018 3500 recently took a trip to the dealership when it hit 70,000 miles due to transmission issues. I just received a quote for $12,000 to have it replaced. This will be the final Mopar vehicle I'll ever consider owning.

I drive a 2018 Ram 3500 Limited that has 45,000 miles on it and only a few weeks left of warranty. The clutches went bad, the transmission needs to be replaced, but the dealerships refuse to honor the warranty. Now I have to search for a used or remanufactured transmission because new ones are over $11,000, if you can even find one. Really frustrated with their customer service!!

At 155,000 miles, I replaced the front and rear differential fluids and the crankcase fluid, but only left the transmission alone. The only issues I've had with the truck were at 152,000 miles with the alternator and at 154,000 miles with the short runner valve. It appears that every time I change the transmission fluid, I end up having problems with the transmission, so I'm avoiding messing with it. I am aiming to drive my 1500 Ram 5.7 until it reaches 240,000 miles.

I own two Rams, a 2018 Ram 2500 and a Ram 3500. Both transmissions failed at 66,000 miles. These trucks are terrible; Dodge should feel embarrassed for selling them. Hardworking folks are shelling out ridiculous amounts for these trucks and then facing exorbitant repair costs due to poor design choices. I'm furious and done with Dodge trucks. Goodbye to these being my last ones.

In 2015, my Ram 1500 started experiencing problems at 61,000 miles. The issues included unpredictable shifting, rough transitions between gears, and delays when engaging gears. I was quoted $5,500 for a transmission rebuild but opted not to go to the dealership. The transmission specialists I consulted mentioned that they have encountered this problem more frequently.

The dealership swapped out the transmission, torque converter, and oil cooler with warranty coverage a year ago. Now, with just 13,000 miles over 13 months later, the transmission is faulty again. Once it's fixed, I'll probably switch to a different truck brand. I purchased this 2500 heavy-duty 4x4 for its robust capabilities, but it's frustrating that it can't seem to hold a transmission. I'm quite let down by Ram!

I've got a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with a gas engine, just a little over 100,000 miles on it. The folks at the Dodge dealership think I might have to swap out the transmission because of some issues with the overdrive. It's still at the shop, and they'll have a final answer in a couple of days. I called up AAMCO for an estimate in case I need a new transmission, and the guy there mentioned that he's replaced a bunch of transmissions on these newer models with under 100,000 miles. Seems like there are common troubles with the Ram transmissions. If mine's on its way out, I won't be going back to the dealership for another Mopar.
