Hyundai has issued a service campaign labeled 953 to address concerns with certain Hyundai Sonata cars manufactured between 2011 and 2018. This recall includes the 2.0L Turbo and 2.4L Turbo models for necessary software updates and issues related to the check engine light. The KSDS software in these vehicles closely monitors engine vibrations to detect any unusual patterns that may indicate abnormal wear on the engine connecting rod bearing. If such vibrations are detected, the malfunction indicator lamp will flash continuously, prompting the vehicle to enter a temporary engine protection mode with reduced power and acceleration. To address this issue, Hyundai has extended the warranty on these cars to cover engine damage resulting from these vibrations for up to 120,000 miles or 10 years.
My 2013 SantaFe Sport has hit the 100,000-mile mark. The engine is still operating smoothly both while running and idling. I received a letter (953) on March 22, 2021. I just got back from Florida and I'm very happy with the car I've had since 2013. My only worry is that a potential recall or a visit to the dealer might mess things up for this fantastic ride. - D.
