There's no simple way to turn off the check engine light on the 2008 Honda Accord. If it's illuminated, there's likely an issue with the car, though it could be due to various factors. Instead of wasting time trying to pinpoint the problem on your own, it's best to take your car to a mechanic who can use an OBD tool to diagnose the issue based on the trouble code. Once you know the problem, you can have it fixed to turn off the light. Before heading to the mechanic, it's a good idea to check if the gas cap is missing or the fuel door is open, as this could also trigger the light. Fixing this simple issue yourself can save you a trip to the mechanic.

My VSA and Engine lights were constantly turning on. Initially, I could temporarily fix it by putting the car in neutral, turning it off and on again to clear the error codes. This method worked for about 6 months until my car's VSA and Engine lights started coming on simultaneously, putting the car into "limp mode" where it couldn't accelerate beyond 10 MPH. Finally, I decided to take my car to a trusted mechanic today, who found that there was a glitch in the Honda computer incorrectly detecting misfiring cylinders in the engine, even though the engine itself was fine. This glitch was causing the car to go into limp mode. The mechanic mentioned that this issue is becoming common with older Hondas. The only solution was to "flash" the car's master computer to reset it to factory settings, which would eliminate the glitch. They weren't sure why the sensor settings were changing, but flashing the computer resolved the problem. Even though I had tried various other fixes at home, such as replacing the crank position sensor, battery, coils, spark plugs, ground strap, and starter, it was only the computer flashing that solved the issue with my 2008 Honda Accord's VSA and Engine indicators and the limp mode. The cost was $150, and the repair took about an hour. If you encounter similar issues, I suggest starting with getting the computer flashed.
