If the 4-wheel drive is not functioning in your Kia Sorento, it may be due to various issues. A common problem in these vehicles is linked to a front differential actuator pump. This pump pushes air into the differential, which contains a diaphragm that engages the 4-wheel drive system. If the pump malfunctions, it may not generate sufficient pressure to activate the diaphragm, resulting in the 4WD not engaging. You can locate the pump on the front driver's side of the engine compartment. To check if it is producing enough pressure, disconnect the airline on the pump's side and attach a pressure gauge. The pressure should ideally be between five and seven pounds per square inch (PSI). If it falls below this range, you will need to replace the pump to restore the functionality of the 4-wheel drive system.

There are several potential issues that could lead to the 4x4 system in the Kia Sorento not functioning properly, including problems with the wiring harness, a damaged transfer case actuator, or a faulty 4x4 shaft relay.

My four-wheel drive (4WD) wasn't functioning, so I swapped out the transfer case on the transmission. Initially, it seemed to be working fine, but now there are issues again. Any further tips or suggestions?

I just removed the front differential panel to inspect the gears. Everything was fine except for a cracked pipe on top that connected to the 4WD actuator. I trimmed an inch off the pipe and now it's working perfectly 👍

I brought my Kia in for service and was told that the pump was faulty. When I checked the pressure, I discovered that the valve cover gasket was leaking. The intake leading to the pump was filled with oil, so now I'm in the process of cleaning it thoroughly. I'm wondering if anyone has a rebuild diagram in case I decide to take it apart.
