If the cooling fan in your 2005 Chevy Malibu is not functioning, the first step is to check the fuse that powers the fan. If the fuse is blown, you'll need to replace it to restore the fan's operation. If the fuse is fine, the next thing to investigate is the wiring connected to the fan. Ensure the connection is secure without any fraying or damage. If issues persist, inspect the fan motor itself as it may be damaged and require replacement.

I'm experiencing a similar problem where my fans won't turn on unless I disconnect the temperature sensor. The sensor is new, so I'm not sure if the issue lies with the wiring to the sensor. When I unplug it and switch on the air conditioner, the fans kick in. However, when I switch off the air conditioner, reconnect the sensor, and then turn the air back on, the fans don't restart. If the temperature starts rising, I simply turn on the heater to prevent overheating. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, everyone!

If the fan motor malfunctions, the radiator won't be able to cool the coolant properly. An overheating engine is a common sign of a faulty fan motor, which can manifest as a high-temperature warning on the dashboard, steam escaping the engine area or from under the front of the car, or reduced engine performance. A faulty cooling fan motor may trigger the check engine light, while a blown fuse could indicate issues with the fan motor circuit.
