In a 2017 Subaru Outback, a water leak on the passenger side may be due to a blocked AC drain hose or a malfunctioning heater core. The evaporator core, part of the AC system, is situated on the passenger side of the dashboard and can accumulate moisture, similar to a glass of cold water. This moisture is supposed to be drained away, but if the drain hose becomes clogged, the water may end up on the passenger floor. To fix this issue, locate the drain tube and clear it using compressed air or a wire. The heater core, which heats the air for the cabin, is usually positioned above the passenger footwell. If there's a leak in the heater core or its hoses, coolant may pool on the front passenger floor, emitting a distinctive sweet smell.
