The wiper motor in your 2012 Volkswagen Jetta, much like any other motor, will eventually fail. You'll likely notice its decline by the increased noise it makes over time, rather than it breaking down suddenly. The sound will intensify as the motor wears out. When replacing the motor, it might be wise to change both of them, as they're likely of similar age and usage. Although the replacement process isn't overly complicated, it does take some time. You'll need to remove the wiper arms and the cowl beneath them before you can access and replace the wiring and motors.
