There are various reasons why a Honda CR-V might have trouble starting, and by observing certain symptoms, you can narrow down the possible cause. If you notice flashing dash lights specifically when you turn the key, along with a clicking noise initially or the engine attempting to turn over a couple of times, the issue likely stems from a drained battery. A dead battery can result from excessive power usage by a component (such as a light or electronic device) or a defective alternator. Jump-starting the vehicle should get it running temporarily, but you may need to consider replacing the battery soon and addressing the power-draining component.
Our CRV just experienced the same issue - if we were to jump start it, do you think we could at least get it to the garage? Thank you very much.
I left the gas station and attempted to start my CRV, but it seemed to have a mind of its own. It refused to start, continuously making a clicking sound with flashing dashboard lights. It turned out to be a dead battery, and I had never experienced a car behaving that way due to a battery issue before.
If the dashboard indicator lights are blinking on a Honda CR-V and the vehicle is unable to start, it typically indicates an issue with a drained battery.
The information provided was immensely useful when our CRV started experiencing a chaotic display of lights on the dashboard before abruptly shutting down. It was clear that the issue was related to the electrical system, and indeed, replacing the aging 4 1/2-year-old battery solved the problem.
The car is refusing to start.
This was a real game-changer! It worked like a charm - gave it a jump, revved the other car for a couple of minutes, and then it fired right up. Off to get a new battery now - will keep you posted if anything else happens. Thanks a lot!! (2016 CRV)
