The humming sound near the Toyota Camry's fuel tank is likely the evaporative (EVAP) purge valve, which releases the negative pressure from the tank. This noise is a normal feature of its operation. Typically, the ticking of the purge valve is natural and shouldn’t be audible inside the cabin when the windows are closed. If the sound is excessively loud within the vehicle, you should consider replacing the valve. During refueling, the purge valve may leak vapors into the engine, inadvertently causing the vehicle to draw in gases when it shouldn't. This can result in difficult starts and rough running until the extra fumes are burned off. The cost for a replacement valve generally ranges from $15 to $45, varying based on the valve's size and whether it is an aftermarket or OEM part.

If the Toyota Camry experiences leakage from the PCV valve, it is probably due to the valve being closed or partially closed. This causes pressure to accumulate, leading to fluid being pushed out through the gaskets and seals, which produces a hissing noise.
