If you notice a grinding sound coming from the rear differential of your 2010 Cadillac SRX, the main issue is probably a damaged gear. This can be a costly and significant problem that requires immediate attention. Since this repair is quite complex, most owners will probably have to bring their vehicle to a professional for fixing. If you take it to a repair shop, the total repair cost is estimated to be between $500 and $1500.

Replace the fluid for the differential clutch pump using part number GM 88863340. This is a straightforward task, but the fluid is not inexpensive. To begin, locate the small pump motor at the bottom of the rear end. Pull it out and remove it, allowing the fluid to drain. Use brake cleaner to clean the screen on the pump and the reservoir. Replace the cleaned components and fill the pump while the car is in drive on a lift. If a lift is not available, fill the pump, drive the car for a few miles, and then refill it. Best of luck with the process.
