If there is a problem with a 2008 Ford Edge AWD or its powertrain, a symbol of a wrench will light up on the dashboard, indicating a powertrain fault. Normally, this warning suggests an issue with the automatic transmission and is more likely to occur in older or high-mileage vehicles. Ignoring these alerts can lead to the components overheating and may result in the vehicle going into a default safe mode until the problem is fixed. This warning light signifies a significant problem and should not be dismissed.

I went to Las Vegas and a warning light came on in my car. Can I still drive it back to Los Angeles with the light on, and what does that warning light mean, please?

I drive a 2014 Ford Edge with around 33,000 miles. When I was pulling into a gas station, my car suddenly lost power, but I was fortunate that it happened there. After looking up the warning icon, it seemed to indicate an issue with the Throttle body. Even though the car returned to normal after turning it off and on, I played it safe and had it towed to the Ford dealership. The technician quickly identified the problem as the Throttle body, which luckily was covered by my extended warranty but not the Ford recall, which I find frustrating. The technician mentioned that the issue was specific to my vehicle's Vin#. The repair involved a nearly $400 part and an additional $50 for reprogramming a circuit board, which my warranty thankfully covered. Although the dealership couldn't replicate the problem, they did find the code P2111 using a handheld diagnostic tool. I feel fortunate that my car retained the code, as some others might not have. Experiencing a complete loss of power was alarming, and I'm relieved it happened while entering the gas station rather than on the freeway.

The wrench light on a 2008 Ford Edge signals a powertrain issue or reduced power. It turns on to indicate a fault in the powertrain or all-wheel drive system. It's important to get in touch with your authorized dealer promptly.
