The u1040 error code in your Chevy indicates that your vehicle has disconnected from the electronic brake control module. This may be due to a faulty sensor or a problem with the brake system itself. If your car is still under warranty, it's best to take it to your nearest dealership for inspection. If you're not covered by a warranty, the next option is to have it looked at by a shop, but keep in mind it could be expensive.

I've attempted all the methods suggested online to reset the anti-theft system on my 2007 Chevy Cobalt LS 2.2L. I've tried turning the keys 5 times in 30 minutes, turning it on and off for 3 cycles, running it for a continuous 30 minutes, holding down the steering wheel buttons, and even attempting to bypass or cut the yellow wire. Despite running smoothly before, it suddenly locked up one day. What could be the missing issue here?

Inspect the frame ground connection for the Electronic Brake Control Unit (EBCU). If the ring wire ground attached to the frame becomes loose, remove the ring wire, clean the frame down to bare metal, and reconnect the wire. If this solves the issue, spray some undercoating over the ground ring connection for protection.
