DTC B1317 can be saved in the module's memory from previous battery charging or jump-start incidents. If the DSM detects a voltage input exceeding 15 volts, it will store DTC B1317. A common reason for this trouble code is a deteriorating alternator. Alternators are responsible for charging your car's battery and providing electricity for components such as the ignition, radio, air conditioning, power windows, and other electrical systems in your vehicle. The voltage regulator oversees the battery's charge and instructs the alternator when to deliver power.

The module may save fault code B1317 if it has experienced battery charging or vehicle jump start incidents in the past. If the DSM detects a voltage exceeding 15 volts, it will keep fault code B1317 stored. When fault code B1317 is present, the DSM disables the functions of the memory system for the driver's seat adjustment.
