When your Chevy Silverado's idle control system triggers the P0507 error code, it means the truck is idling at abnormally high or unusual RPMs. This problem arises when the Engine Control Unit notices RPM levels outside the normal range during operation. The culprit behind this issue is usually an intake leak, carbon buildup on the throttle body, a clogged Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, a malfunctioning power steering switch, or a faulty alternator. Symptoms may include the "check engine" light turning on, erratic or fluctuating idle speeds, rough engine performance, and difficulty starting the vehicle. Typically, a dirty throttle body or a clogged IAC valve is to blame. The cost of replacing the IAC valve typically falls between $360 and $420 for parts and labor.

Essentially, the idle air control valve (IAC) is a motor controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM) and is found on the throttle body. This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) triggers when the PCM detects an engine speed that is not within the range that the IAC can control.
