There are a few reasons why the sunroof on your Toyota RAV4 might be leaking. One common cause is worn weather sealing around the edge of the sunroof, allowing water to seep into your car. Another less known reason could be a dirty weather seal, where dirt particles act like cracks and direct water into your vehicle. A third possibility is a clogged drain tube, which can cause water to overflow into your cabin if not properly directed outside.

That's the explanation I received when I brought it in for repairs. The issue with the airbag light was deemed non-mechanical by the first dealer and not covered under warranty. I had to pay to get the leaking sunroof fixed, which eventually started leaking again after 6 months. Another dealer confirmed the same diagnosis. Despite never having issues with sunroofs in my previous five cars, including one where I had a sunroof installed later, I've had to resort to temporary solutions like taping a shield over the sunroof to keep water out. There have been no warranty claims since 2005, yet Toyota refuses to address the ongoing problems, despite my loyalty as a customer who has spent approximately $60,000 on two new Rav4s and servicing. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with Toyota's lack of support in this matter.

The typical cause of a sunroof leak in the Toyota RAV4 is often due to blocked drainage in the sunroof or its outlets.
