In 2008, the Honda Civic was offered with three different engines that slightly affect its top speed. Each engine setup includes an electronic speed limiter that stops you at 120 miles per hour. However, there are ways to bypass this limiter (I can tell you how!). It's worth noting the potential top speeds for each engine: the 1.8L 4Cylinder engine could potentially reach 128 miles per hour without the limiter, the 1.8L natural gas engine also tops out around the same speed, and the larger 2.0L 4Cylinder engine has a theoretical top speed of around 136 miles per hour if the limiter was removed. Keep in mind that these figures are theoretical, and it's definitely not safe or recommended to try to reach these speeds on rural roads.

My 2008 Civic Si can reach 134 mph before the speed limiter kicks in, and it's a bit frightening to experience. The whole car struggles at that high speed.

Recently, I had the opportunity to drive my car on a test track. I pushed it up to 120 mph just to see how it handled at that speed. Despite my car being completely stock, I managed to hit 124 mph before slowing down. However, I had to back off because the acceleration was agonizingly slow, and my vehicle felt like it was on the verge of falling apart. Given that my car is not in the best condition, I felt it was necessary. By the way, I'm aware that newer 10th generation Civics are speed-limited to 125 mph, similar to the 2008 models.

Today, I reached a speed of 130 miles per hour in my 2008 Civic Si. The only modification I have made for performance is installing a Skunk2 Mega RR catback exhaust; I did not tune it.

I'm not sure, but the fourth gear in my 2008 LX 1.8 can go up to about 115 miles per hour. The fifth gear isn't very strong though.
