My 2008 S-65 can reach a top speed of 155 mph. The way it is geared allows it to hit that speed in fourth gear. When I ease off the gas, it switches to fifth gear for smooth and quiet cruising at 155 mph. With enough power, it can reach 161 mph under hard acceleration before the speed limiter kicks in and brings it back down to 155 mph.

I own a classic '03 S55 AMG with just 135,000 miles on it. I haven't had to do any major engine work, tune-ups, or change the spark plugs. The car still performs just as well and as quick as the day I bought it. Initially, it could reach speeds of 180 mph and the front end would dip. But after the first servicing, the top speed became 155 mph. The speedometer shows it can hit 200 mph, and without any alterations to the limiter, the car could go beyond that. Despite being 18 years old now, driving this car is still a delightful experience. It also gets over 22 mpg on long trips.
