If you have a 2008 Toyota Tacoma, you have one of two engines depending on the setup and model. The smaller engine is a 2.7L 4-cylinder, while the larger one is a 4.0L V6. For the 2.7L engine, regardless of setup, it requires 5.5 quarts of SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil. In a pinch, you can use SAE 5W-20 synthetic temporarily. On the other hand, if your Tacoma has the larger engine, the specifics vary. The 4.0L Tacoma engine with 4WD needs 5.5 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil. The RWD PRE model has the same requirement. However, the RWD Base and RWD XRUN versions use 4.8 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil, with an option to use SAE 5W-40 conventional oil temporarily.

In 2008, the Toyota Tacoma with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine takes about 6.1 US Quarts of oil, while the V6 4.0-liter engine on two-wheel drive models (except Pre-Runner) needs around 4.8 US Quarts. For four-wheel drive models and Pre-Runner, the oil capacity is approximately 5.5 US Quarts.
