I just finished an oil change on my 2009 1500 4x4 with a 5.7 engine. I added 7 quarts of oil, but the level is still indicating that it's a quart low. I made sure the truck was on a flat surface when I checked the level.

I have a 2007 Quad Cab 4x4 with 170,000 miles on it, and I've always used high-quality 5w-20 oil in it. I prefer not to use full synthetics because they're expensive, and I believe it's unnecessary as long as you religiously change your oil every 5,000 miles and use Seafoam gas treatment every fourth tank. Carbon buildup is something you want to avoid. Fun fact: the 5.7L HEMI engine holds 7 quarts of oil instead of the typical 6 quarts found in most V8 engines because it's designed to burn a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. Now you're in the know!
