Swapping out the engine in a Ford Ranger is quite a complex task and the engine happens to be one of the priciest components of the entire truck. With the expensive cost of parts and the extensive labor involved, the expenses can quickly add up. Typically, a secondhand engine will run you around $2500, while a brand new one could cost $5000. In addition, labor charges usually range from $1500 to $3000, depending on the prevailing rates in your area. When you factor in all these costs, installing a new engine in a Ford Ranger typically falls in the range of $4000 to $8000, depending on labor rates and the type of engine you opt for.

Are you serious? Your mechanic wants $5,500 to rebuild your engine, but you can get a crate engine for only $1,700? That's insane! You know, a Ford Taurus engine can actually work in a Ranger. When my Ranger's engine died, I got a Ford Taurus motor for $250, transferred a few parts, and put it in my truck. The block and heads are interchangeable between the two models. I wouldn't pay $5,500 for an engine rebuild, that's for sure.

I'm in the market for a new engine for my 2013 Ford Ranger XLT, but I'm a little uncertain about how much I'll be charged for it.

Wow, $5500 seems steep. I suggest avoiding that mechanic. You could purchase a refurbished 3.0L EFI engine for a Ranger at just $1500. If they're charging you $4000 for labor, that seems way overpriced. It should not amount to more than $2500.

Ford gave me an estimate of $16,000 to repair my car, which has a hole in the piston. Is that really how much it will cost?

I've been given a price of more than $8000 to replace the engine in my 2013 Ford Ranger diesel! Anyone know of a mechanic in Perth who can do it for a lower cost?

I believe that the main issue being overlooked here is the variation in engines available for these Ranger vehicles, which range from diesel to petrol models. For example, a complete rebuild of a 3.2-liter diesel engine can cost around $6500, while a rebuild kit goes for $2500, not to mention additional expenses for parts and labor. It's evident that petrol engines are more cost-effective. As a representative for mechanics like myself, I can assure you that we put in a lot of effort and work diligently. Currently, I am working on a 2013 Ranger PX diesel engine.

If you need to replace the engine in your Ford Ranger, consider purchasing a 3.0 engine from a Ford Taurus of the same year. While there will be some parts to switch out, it's a more cost-effective solution. The heads and blocks of a Ford Taurus are compatible with a Ford Ranger. I've already swapped my Ford Ranger's engine with heads and block from a Ford Taurus.

If you need to replace the engine in your Ford Ranger, expect to pay around $5500 for the total cost, including labor and a rebuilt engine.

I believe it's worth considering the prices of a comprehensive overhaul kit. For example, I own a 1991 Ranger Base model with a 2.3L engine and the master overhaul kit costs $350. This kit includes new pistons, rings, wrist pins, main and rod bearings, oil pump, gasket set, timing belt, and idler. Removing the engine should take around 2.5 hours, with a full rebuilding process in a day. It seems like someone is asking a steep price of $5,500 for this job. Alternatively, I could opt for a used engine from Smith's Auto Salvage for $850, which comes complete with all components. This option also comes with a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty.

My car guy told me that putting in a rebuilt engine for a 1996 Ford Ranger would run me around $8,000 to $10,000. It's a well-respected shop. Given the current costs of parts and inflation, I trust him. It's likely still cheaper than purchasing a new truck.

I just received quotes for a motor in Adelaide for $8200 from Ford. The injectors in Melbourne are $500 each, while the turbo costs $800. The installation was approximately $6000.

I just bought an engine for my Ranger from Premiumpowertrain in Texas. The engine cost $3,705, but I'll get $450 back once I return the core. It took three months to arrive. The mechanic is planning to start the installation on Tuesday, but I'm not sure how much the labor will cost yet.

In Australia, a new compact engine made by Ford costs around $9,000. However, I was given a quote of $22,000 for a complete engine replacement, including installation, for my 2017 Ranger.

Looking for an engine for my 2020 Ranger. Owned it for less than two years. Ford is asking for $9000. Any ideas on how to fix this without breaking the bank? $9000 on top of my car payment is just too expensive. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My 2014 Ford Ranger XLT dual cab 4x4 diesel recently experienced a piston and potentially block issue. The repair cost is estimated to be around $26,000, which includes a new motor from Ford, along with new radiator hoses, turbo, and various other components. My mechanic advised against opting for a cheaper, non-Ford motor as it may contain inferior parts and lack warranty coverage. While the cost is higher than anticipated, I believe investing in a new motor from Ford with a warranty is a better option than purchasing a second-hand Ute at a similar price. This is a tough decision to make, but it seems like the most sensible choice. I am located in Western Australia.

I don't know where you guys are finding these great deals on parts. I wouldn't trust something in my truck if the price is as low as what you're saying. I've seen motors go for $500 or a rebuilt one for $1700. You should really shop around because the best price I could find for a 2002 Ranger 3.0 motor was about $2300, and that's just for a basic remanufactured block with no extras like the intake or injectors. You'd have to transfer all those parts over from your old motor, on top of needing a gasket kit and other essentials. Don't forget the labor costs involved with taking out the old motor, fixing any broken bolts, and then putting it all back together at today's high hourly rates that can range from $120 to $180. You might find a cheaper option at a more budget-friendly shop, but be careful with who you choose.

I spent $500 on my '94 Ranger, then purchased a wrecked '94 Explorer with a good engine and transmission. I drove it home, removed the engine and transmission, installed them in my truck, and now my Ranger is as good as new!
