To reset the computer in your Toyota Avalon, first open the hood and turn off the ignition. Remember to engage the parking brake for safety. Then, grab some pliers (or a wrench if you don't have pliers handy) for the next step. Disconnect both the negative and positive cables from your battery. Wait about 5 minutes, then reconnect the cables. Your computer should now be reset. Turn the ignition back on to verify that everything has been reset.

To reboot the Toyota Avalon computer, you'll require an OBD diagnostic tool. Connect the OBD tool to the port and launch it; you'll find a reset button for the ECU/computer.
