In some Ford Explorer models with V6 or V8 engines, there can be a loud low-toned noise that seems to be coming from the air intake area, caused by the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC). While you could remove and clean the IAC, it's not recommended as it may only provide a temporary fix. Eventually, it could fail again, leaving you stranded and requiring a costly towing service. The cost of a new IAC ranges from $30 to $80 for V6 engines and $70 to $120 for V8 engines. This repair typically takes about ten minutes to complete.
