If you drive a Chevy Silverado, you might have experienced a common issue of hearing clunking, groaning, or creaking sounds coming from the area in front of your steering wheel. This problem can often be noticed as early as around 10,000 miles. It is often caused by a faulty intermediate steering shaft, which moves slightly when the truck body flexes on the frame. While some models have rubber isolators, others do not. The stock GM steering shaft has a splined slip joint that comes with grease from the factory. Over time, the grease can shift to one end of the joint, resulting in a minor movement in the shaft pieces and causing the noise.

If your Chevy Silverado is making noise while turning at low speeds, check the power steering system or the suspension, as one of them is probably the cause.
