In a Chevy Cruze, a ticking noise is often due to a problem with the valve spring. If you hear the ticking while idling, that's likely the cause. On the other hand, if you only hear the ticking when accelerating, it could be from something in the engine or intake system. Sometimes debris can get into the intake piping, causing a ticking sound when it bounces around against the plastic during acceleration. Another possibility is the tensioner for the accessory drive belt. When the spring in the tensioner wears out, you may hear a ticking noise coming from it. The noise could also occur if there's a worn-out bearing on the tensioner or any other component driven by the belt.

There could be various causes for a ticking sound in your car, like not enough oil or parts being loose. If you hear a ticking, clicking, or tapping noise when your car is at a stop, speeding up, or even right after an oil change, it's something to pay attention to.
