The abbreviation FE on a Kia Optima indicates that it is designed to be fuel efficient. Specifically, the Kia Optima model LX2.4L from 2016-2018 falls under this category. It runs on regular gasoline and achieves 25 miles per gallon in city driving and 36 miles per gallon on the highway, resulting in an average fuel economy of 29 mpg. If you drive 15,000 miles per year with this vehicle, the annual fuel cost would be around $1,200, based on current fuel prices. This cost is slightly higher compared to other Kia models that do not have the FE designation on the trunk.

This system allows the drive train to rotate without being connected to the transmission or front transaxle, ultimately helping to save fuel.
