The BMW X3's power liftgate may stop working because of a blown fuse that prevents the hatch from opening. Additionally, 2012 models may need a software reprogramming of the JBE (Junction Box Electronics) as per a BMW technical service bulletin. Neglecting to update the JBE software could lead to issues with the power liftgate as well as other malfunctions such as non-functional power windows, door locks, windshield wipers, and the ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) failing to connect with the car. An illuminated "Electronic Malfunction" warning light may also occur. Drivers should check the ISTA’s communication with the vehicle and follow any instructions given. If this doesn’t work, they are advised to disconnect the JBE or battery for half an hour to perform a reset.
