The top issue with the electronic power steering system in a Honda CR-V commonly involves blowing the fuse of the system. This occurs when there is a short circuit within the system or if it is drawing excessive power. In such cases, the fuse will blow in order to safeguard the motor from harm. Your car utilizes an electronic motor to assist you in turning the steering wheel, and this motor can deteriorate over time. The motor may fail either internally or externally. It is suggested to inspect the external wiring connections to ensure they are secure and clear of any debris or damage that could result in a disconnection from the motor.

I am experiencing comparable issues with the electric steering in my 2018 CR-V. The problem seems to be happening more frequently, and at times it completely locks up, making me feel very unsafe while driving. Despite visiting the Honda dealership three times, they have been unable to pinpoint any issues, and the problem doesn't arise during their test drives. The dealership suggested replacing the battery as a potential solution, even though it didn't make sense to me since the battery was only a year old. However, feeling like I had no other option, I went ahead and replaced the battery at my expense, hoping it would fix the electric steering problem. Unfortunately, the new battery did not solve the issue, leaving me very frustrated. I am open to any suggestions or advice on how to address this ongoing problem.

In 2018, Honda issued a recall for some 2017-2018 Honda Civic and Honda CR-V vehicles due to defective gear box modules. Honda will replace these modules at no cost to you. Reach out to your local dealer to find out if you qualify for the replacement.

I'm having a similar issue with my 2014 CRV where the power steering randomly stops working. It can go weeks before happening again. I've taken it to the dealer 5 times, and on the fourth visit, I drove it there while the issue was occurring so they could witness it too. Turning the car off and on usually fixes the problem temporarily. During the fourth visit, they diagnosed a faulty steering control module and replaced it for $1100. However, just 3 weeks later, the steering stopped working again. Now, the dealer is recommending a $3000 replacement of the steering rack. It feels like they're just swapping parts to see if it solves the problem, and I'm not confident this will be the definitive fix. If this doesn't work, I might have to go through with the repair and then consider getting rid of the car. It's concerning because my wife is unable to steer the car when the power steering fails.

I'm also dealing with EPS problems on my 2014 CR-V. After replacing the battery, the steering worked fine for a week, but now it's acting up more frequently. The fuses are okay, and a mechanic scanned it without finding a clear solution. If I replace the steering control module, will a dealership need to reprogram it?

I'm dealing with a similar issue on my 2019 CRV. The steering drifts a bit, then I notice the steering wheel grabbing it. The dealership told me I'll need to replace the steering rack, and it's going to cost $3400.

My brand new 2019 CR-V had a problem with its electric power steering that nearly led to a crash into a wall on the highway. It cost $3000 to fix. Since then, my mileage has dropped by 6 miles per gallon. It's likely that the codes were set incorrectly during the repair done by the Honda dealer in Venice, Florida. What steps should I take to address this issue?

Experiencing identical issues as Ed W with my 2013 CRV EX. When it occurs, I can still steer the car, but it feels uneasy and somewhat alarming. Restarting the car resolves the issue. I haven't brought it to Honda yet as my mechanic's Honda acquaintance mentioned they are aware of the problem but haven't found a solution. Currently, I'm waiting for it to happen again to see if a resolution is discovered.
