Multiple instances of unintended acceleration have been reported with the 2003 Lexus ES300, often stemming from loose drivers side floor mats causing the accelerator pedal to get stuck in an open position. This issue is typically due to driver error rather than a flaw in the vehicle's design. Lexus advises against using aftermarket floor mats as they can further increase the risk of this problem occurring. To prevent this, it is recommended to completely remove the drivers side floor mat and not use one at all. Other potential causes of acceleration issues include a faulty fuel pump, clogged fuel injector, worn spark plugs or coil, as well as computer malfunctions, which may require a diagnostic scan to pinpoint the problem.
To reset the fuel pump on a 2003 Lexus ES300, locate the inertial switch beneath the dashboard and press the reset button specifically for the fuel pump. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, it may indicate a faulty fuel pump that could lead to slow acceleration or insufficient fuel supply to the engine.
