The fuel gauge in the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse is notorious for being inaccurate, causing some drivers to run out of gas unexpectedly and rethink their decisions that led them there, including choosing a Chevy in the first place. However, joking aside, the lack of accuracy with the fuel gauge has been a long-standing issue with Chevy models for more than ten years. Additionally, a concerning problem with the 2011 Traverse is the premature failure of the fuel level sending unit, a component in the fuel tank that communicates with the engine control unit to display the fuel level on the gauge. When this sending unit fails, the gauge stops working altogether. Replacing this part can be pricey, with labor costs around $300 and parts costing approximately $670.

If the fuel level sensor malfunctions, the fuel gauge might not function properly and the check engine light could come on in certain vehicles. If the check engine light does illuminate, the trouble codes in the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system will likely be related to the fuel level sensor.
